How do I measure a wheel?

Here are some tips on how to measure a wheel to ensure you order the correct size:

  1. Measure the diameter of the wheel.  Measure from the outside edge to outside edge.  If it’s a pneumatic tyre take note of the markings on the side of the tyre, eg 480x400x8.
  2. Measure the axle bore / hole size in the centre of the wheel.  Another way is to measure the axle diameter size with callipers.
  3. Measure the hub length (the distance from one side of the wheel hub to the other).  An easy way to do this is to insert a pencil or shaft through the centre, then measure that.
  4. Another way is to measure the axle length where the wheel sits.
